For ten years, Magnum photographer Larry Towell documented the lives of Mexican Mennonite migrant workers both in Ontario and in their insular desert colonies of Mexico. He produced one of the most beautiful and award winning photography books of the decade. In the process, he began recording the sixteenth century hymns of Old Colony Mennonites and the sounds from their natural environments. Coupled with the spoken word, he and producer Jeff Bird have textured a haunting and a beautiful forty-five minute sound track using original field recordings, piano, bass, flute, accordion, jaw's harp, musical saw, "natural" instruments and the highly innovative vocal arrangements of Gwen Swick of the band, Quartet.
